King George III & Pirate

King George III

Why, you ask?  I had a AP US History project to do anything related to the American Revolution, so I slaved for a week on this costume and I got 100%.  *smug grin*  Along with that I invented my own melody to sing a song to George III's proclamation that the colonies were at war with England.  There were lots of fun wherefore's and whereas's.

My favorite parts were definitely the fabrics that I used.  Other than the lining, it all came out of the home decorating area.  Meaning: it's upholstery.  But I love it!  It was so much fun to work with.  The red vest fabric has elephants on it.  ^_^  The big gold buttons were great too, especially since some had crowns and shields, whereas the others had eagles on them that were distinctly American.  Only the vest and coat where things that I sewed.  The rest was just stuff I found lying around the hose and flung together.  I had some black tie-up shoes that I tied some belt buckles to.  ^_^  All around, it was what got me hooked on sewing again, and I love it!

Recently, I made my brother a pirate costume for a halloween and we entered the costume contest together with a skit involving the declaration of war with the colonies and a bad pirate joke. He got first place and I got runner up. Go team!
